Starting next term, young children attending early childhood Education in public (ECDs) centres in Trans Nzoia County will be provided with milk and porridge during their time at school.

This initiative is being funded through part of the Education budget for the 2023-2024 fiscal year, which has been allocated a total of sh.836 million.

The decision to introduce milk in ECD centers is expected to encourage more enrollments, as highlighted by Waitaluk MCA Furaha Lusweti, who supported the budget bill.

Lusweti also raised concerns about the distribution of funds within the education department, noting that a significant portion is allocated to secondary schools, colleges, and universities through bursaries, while ECDs and vocational training centers, which fall under county jurisdiction, receive less attention.

To address this, the budget will be utilized to construct administration blocks in both vocational training centers and ECDs.

Furthermore, the funds will be used to hire additional teachers for these centers, enhancing the quality of education provided.

Overall, the budget will run both recurrent and development activities in order to improve education sector in the County.
