463 genuine casuals who worked for the county government of Bungoma are set to be employed on a permanent basis Bungoma governor Kenneth Lusaka has said.

This comes in the wake of a court ruling that ruled so following a protracted court battle.

In her ruling the employment and labour relations court judge Jemima Kelly quashed two lists of 660 and 708 purported casuals.

She further directed that only 463 genuine casuals be vetted afresh and approved to serve on permanent basis.

This is after the county government which had been sued complained that they existed conflicting lists with people who had never worked for the county claiming to be casuals.
Majority of those in the 660 and 708 lists were irregularly employed during the last elections as a reward by the previous regime.

In a press statement, Lusaka expressed relief for the embattled casuals, noting that the verdict has paved way for their employment”, He Said.

The governor reiterated that he has already established a committee spearheaded by the County Secretary to carry out the vetting process as directed by the court.
