County Enhances the Synergy to Intensify Waste Management

The Department of Health Services in collaboration with the Department of Environment held a joint meeting on Wednesday to discuss and enhance plans for waste management as the County approaches the Devolution conference.

Leading the discussions in her Office, Chief Officer for Promotive and Preventive Health Dr. Joyce Sang emphasized the importance of raising synergy between the departments to ensure that the town is clean and sanitation is up to the standards.

“Waste management is an essential aspect of public health and environmental sustainability therefore improper disposal and management of waste can lead to various health hazards that include the spread of diseases and pollution of natural resources,” says Dr Sang

She added that the Departments need to work together to develop effective strategies, policies and systems for waste management.

On her part, Chief Officer in charge of Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change Mary Kerich highlighted the need for increased coordination and collaboration between the two departments where she emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal, recycling, and waste reduction practices to ensure the town remains clean and free from environmental pollution.

“It is our significance role to educate the public on the importance of proper waste management and their role in ensuring a clean and healthy environment,” added Kerich.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the departments to share their expertise and experiences in waste management, challenges faced in waste collection, transportation and disposal, as well as the potential solutions and innovations that could be implemented to improve the current waste management system.

Ag. Deputy Director of Public Health, Laban Kiprop, noted that with the waste management plan, they will strengthen waste management infrastructure, promote waste reduction and recycling initiatives, and enhance public awareness and education on proper waste management practices.

Moreover, the departments highlighted the importance of engaging the community in waste management efforts since residents and businesses play a crucial role in ensuring the success of waste management initiatives.
