Uasin Gishu County Ready For Elnino Rains

Uasin Gishu County is prepared for the ongoing Elnino rains scheduled for October and November.

According to Health CEC Sam Kotut, everthing is set.

“As a department, we are ready to face any challenges if Elnino affects our County “, said Kotut

Kotut said they have enough drugs, tents, food transport facilities, and ambulances ready to help people who will be affected by floods and landslides

“We have a budget to facilitate drugs, food, and ambulances to help evacuate people in case of landslides and floods in swampy areas “, said the CEC

Kotut said the health sector is ready to curb the airborne diseases such as cholera and malaria that are to erupt in Elnino rains, where all the 138 hospitals in the county are equipped with drugs and health staff including nurses, doctors, and public health offers

“We have enough staff in all our hospitals to work on any emergencies if the rains struck, said health sector boss

However, Kotut called on residents to be cautious during the rains to avoid loss of property and lives, saying when the heavy rains start they should move out of hilly and swampy areas

“I urge all the people of this county to be on high alert on the ongoing rains such that if it turns destructive they should move out of their residents and go safe areas “, said health CEC

The meteorological Department said parts of the country including Rift Valley will experience Elnino rains that are anticipated destructive and draw an alert on the public to be more cautious.
