County Hosts Physician For Human Rights to Discuss Sexual Violence

The County Government of Uasin Gishu is dedicated to embracing partnerships to ensure the effective implementation of quality and timely service delivery. Working for this, the County Executive for Health Services, Dr Abraham Serem hosted representatives from Physicians for Human Rights to discuss sexual violence.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Serem emphasized the importance of training residents on various aspects related to sexual violence including educating them on the proper dissemination of violence cases, providing access to facilities, and understanding the different forms of sexual violence.

“By working together with Physicians for Human Rights and focusing on these areas, Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration aims to improve the response to sexual violence cases and ensure that victims receive the necessary support and assistance,” said Dr Serem.

Dr Serem also said that these partnerships enable the sharing of knowledge, best practices, and innovative approaches, leading to more effective and comprehensive solutions.

“Quality and timely service delivery are key priorities for our residents, therefore, the need to provide sexual violence victims with access to appropriate medical care, counselling services, and legal support. It also involves streamlining the reporting and investigation processes to ensure that justice is served and perpetrators are held accountable,” added Dr Serem.

Chief Officer, Dr Paul Wangwe (Preventive and Promotive Health) and Dr Joyce Sang (Clinical Services) noted that the Government’s commitment to partnerships and effective service delivery stems from a recognition of the urgency and severity of the issue of sexual violence.

They noted that addressing the sexual violence problem requires a multi-faceted approach that involves collaboration between Government agencies, NGOs, healthcare professionals, and community members.
