Artists, youths, and Jua Kali artisans in Uasin Gishu Plant 1,000 Trees
Artists, youths, and Jua Kali artisans planted Over 1,000 trees in Yamumbi, Kapseret Constituency Uasin Gishu County as the Country marked National Tree Planting Day.
Led by Francis Wachira alias Trocadero they said Trees are essential for life on Earth since they provide us with clean air and water, help to regulate the climate, and support biodiversity.
“Tree planting is one of the most effective ways to combat deforestation and its negative consequences. Trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, which helps to mitigate climate change. They also help to improve air and water quality, prevent soil erosion, and support biodiversity,” Wachira said during the tree-planting exercise.
Daniel Mururu said “This is a positive step towards increasing Kenya’s tree cover. The goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032 is ambitious, but it is achievable if everyone works together,” he said.
Stephen Waweru, one of the Jua Kali artisans in Uasin Gishu County, called on Kenyans to embrace the tree-planting exercise, saying the trees planted now will be important in the future.
“I would like to advise my fellow Kenyans to participate in the tree planting exercise, even at home, the trees we plant now will be important in the future. Youths are the future, and it is important to get them involved in environmental protection from a young age.” Waweru urged.
He added that the trees planted today will be taken care of by the residents who will be divided into different groups to take turns in watering and monitoring the trees.
