EALASCA Games Officially Kicks Off in Kisumu

East Africa Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) games and County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) games have officially kicked off in Kisumu County.

This years EALASCA games have incorporated CASA games with the only country that has attended the event being Uganda.
While officially opening the event at Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu on behalf of the Governor Prof Anyang Nyongo, Deputy Governor Mathew Ochieng said this year’s theme “Building Synergy through Sports and Culture” speaks volumes

“East Africa Community is one and through ball games we can strengthen our brotherhood despite the boundaries created by our colonies. As a city we welcome you all and enjoy your stay here,” he said.

On behalf of Kampala City Mayor Paul Mugambe called upon all other East Africa Countries to join the EALASCA games to reinforce spirit of East Africa Community, networking and sharing experience.

The Chief Officer Department for Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism Dennis Ngira called upon the participants to showcase the best they can offer to make the event competitive.

“We are here to give you morale support so work hard, give your best and may the best team win,” he said.
CASA games are meant to foster the spirit of team work among members of county assembly,through games that bring together MCAs from all 47 counties and enhance national cohesion through healthy competition.

KICOSCA which was founded in 2013 when devolution took effect replaced Kenya Inter-Municipalities Sports and Cultural Association.

The games were meant to give an opportunity to employees from the 47 devolved units to exhibit their sporting talents and learn from others culture.
EALASCA started the year 2008.

Tag of war women from KICOSCA affiliate and CASA officially opened the games with the former emerging victorious.
CASA beat and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) 2-0 to win the opening football match.
