The National Secretary General for Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union Davji Bhimji Atellah has taken a moment to share with us a thought.

“The focus on UHC is rhetoric when critical aspects like health workforce employment and functionality in counties are overlooked.

National interest in #UHC should translate to tangible actions, not just talks. A stark illustration of this disjunction is the pressing need for approximately 200,000 nurses and 50,000 doctors to render hospitals operational.

Regrettably, the current reality reveals a contradiction – with 4,500 doctors and 10,000 nurses unemployed, the country contemplates exporting healthcare professionals instead of addressing the domestic healthcare deficit.

Exporting talent isn’t a solution; we need a concrete plan to fill crucial gaps in our healthcare system.

It’s time for action, not just aspirations.”
