Kuppet Sends a Warning Short to TSC Over Unprecedural Deductions

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) through the Secretary General Akelo Misori remarks has come out guns blazing castigating the employer, Teachers Service Commission for what the union termed as contempt of court.

This is in regards to a court ruling that advised TSC against deducting housing levy from the teachers’ payroll.
The Secretary General termed it as a blatant violation of the law by TSC to make deductions on teachers pay against advisory of the court.

“Why did TSC deduct levies from the January 2024 pay slip, yet the High Court and the Court of Appeal made reservations that the housing levy is unconstitutional. Teachers are facing grave and harsh economic difficulties and as such they are not ready for any other financial burden,” Misori observed.

KUPPET demands that TSC obeys court orders specifically on the housing tax to protect teachers hard earned earnings and benefits.

“We never supported the finance bill and in fact what the government gave of 7-10 was to mitigate the circumstances the teachers were facing. This was a negotiated package between us and the Finance Committee of Parliament.
KUPPET vowed to institute legal contempt proceedings against the Teachers Service Commission.
