Eldoret: Muslims decry Discrimination in Passport Vetting

Muslims in Uasin Gishu have decried discrimination in the passport vetting process.
Led by the Kenya National Fatwa Council National Deputy Director, Sheikh Abubakar Bini they said it’s sad that the vetting process for Muslims to get passports takes over two years.
“Sadly, we Muslims are suffering while applying for passports we are told that we wait for up to two years to be vetted, are we not Kenyans? We are calling on the CS Interior Kithure Kindiki to intervene for sanity to prevail,” said Bini while speaking to the press.

“The problem is not confined to Muslims from Northeastern but anyone with a Muslim name countrywide it takes two years for a mere vetting will we ever be employed?”
Abulaziz Mohamed one of the Imams in Eldoret wondered why they are Kenyans but they are denied passports.
“It’s not that we are against vetting built should be done in one week. How will our children get employed outside the Country if we are denied passports? We can no longer continue being treated like second-class citizens in our own country,” he said.
