5-Member Adhoc Committee Formed to Investigate Allegations Against 2 Busia CECMS

The County Assembly Speaker Fredrick Odilo today ( Tuesday 5th March 2024) ordered for the formation of a 5-member ADHOC Committee to investigate on allegations against County Executive Committee Members Peter Odima( Lands, Housing and Urban Development) and Paul Olung’a Ekwenye ( Culture, Sports and Social Services).

During today’s afternoon session of the assembly, Speaker Hon Odilo gave up to 14th March 2024 for the tabling of the names of the committee members to investigate the allegations against the two County officials.

” The five member adhoc Committee will be given 14 days to investigate the allegations before tabling them on the floor of the assembly for debate and ruling,” the Speaker said.

Th Assembly, on February 29th, 2024, tabled the two motions aimed at impeaching Odima and Ekwenye over various allegations levelled against them.

The impeachment motions were tabled by Leader of Minority Zacheus Kubasu
over what he termed as gross violation of the constitution.

The allegations levelled against Odima include demolition of business premises and kiosks within Busia Central Business District, leading to destruction of properties, physically harm to members of the public; nepotism, favouritism, discrimination,and corruption during allocation of spaces, causing public tension and unrest among many others.

Ekwenye faces among many other allegations; unproccedural procurement and handling of sports equipment and funds for the wards sports activity in Financial Year 2023/2024 budget, misappropriation of cultural funds at sub-county cultural activities during December 2022 and 2023.

Others are cultural funds in the budget and misleading the public by falsely alleging that each ward had been allocated Ksh.1 million for 2023 ward sporting activities.
