Uasin Gishu County Government Launches Drainage Clearing Initiative Amidst Heavy Rains

In response to the ongoing heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding in various parts of Uasin Gishu County, Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, EGH, spearheaded a proactive initiative aimed at mitigating flood risks. The county government has embarked on a comprehensive plan to clear drainages and unblock culverts, crucial steps to enhance water flow and prevent further flooding.

The recent downpours had particularly affected the Cheptiret area, exacerbating existing drainage challenges due to accumulated soil debris, leading to localized flooding. Governor Dr. Bii personally led the clearance efforts in Cheptiret, underscoring the administration’s commitment to addressing the immediate needs of affected communities.

During his visit to impacted families, Governor Dr. Bii assured residents of the county’s unwavering support, emphasizing collaborative efforts with other agencies to monitor and manage the situation effectively. He highlighted the deployment of county roads machinery, including excavators, backhoes, and trucks, to facilitate the unblocking of drainage systems in affected areas.

“I would like to call on residents to exercise utmost caution amidst ongoing heavy rainfall across the country,” urged Governor Dr. Bii, emphasizing the importance of community awareness and preparedness in the face of adverse weather conditions.

Acknowledging the proactive stance of his administration, Governor Dr. Bii emphasized the importance of swift action in response to potential challenges and disasters triggered by heavy rainfall. He reassured residents that the county government remains vigilant and is implementing prompt measures to mitigate any adverse effects.

Accompanying the Governor, Eng Abraham Kiptalam, the Roads, Transport, and Public Works Chief Officer, reiterated the significance of ongoing drainage works in averting surface run-off water from infiltrating homes. Eng Kiptalam affirmed the department’s heightened efforts in providing assistance to mitigate flood impacts in flood-prone areas across the county.
