Lugulu Girls Emerges Victorious in Inaugural Itigo Volleyball Tournament

In a thrilling showcase of skill and determination, Lugulu Girls volleyball team, affectionately known as “Lugs,” secured a triumphant victory in the inaugural edition of the highly anticipated Itigo Girls open tournament. Overcoming formidable opposition from AIC Kosirai girls and the host team, Itigo, Lugulu Girls demonstrated their prowess on the court, clinching the coveted trophy.

The competition was equally fierce in the men’s category, where Cheptil boys asserted their dominance to claim the championship title. Lemokwo boys secured the position of 1st runners-up, while Kabiyet boys earned the accolade of 2nd runners-up, showcasing their resilience and skill in the tournament.

St. Augustine Muruto primary emerged as the champions in the primary school category, with Chebirir primary putting up a commendable performance as the runners-up. Reflecting on the success of the tournament, Joachim Melly, the coordinator of Itigo school games, expressed his satisfaction with the high level of attendance, officiating standards, and the quality of games displayed throughout the event.

“We were primarily focused on honing the skills of our players in preparation for the upcoming term 2B games,” Melly stated over the phone. He further extended his gratitude to all participating teams and expressed anticipation for their return in the following year’s edition.

The tournament not only showcased the immense talent within the region but also highlighted the growing enthusiasm for volleyball in Nandi County. With Itigo, Kabiyet, and Kapkuto aiming to redefine the volleyball landscape in the region, the future of sports looks promising.

As the excitement from the Itigo tournament settles, attention now shifts to the upcoming 7th edition of the AS UC Kosirai girls open tournament, promising another exhilarating display of volleyball prowess and sportsmanship.
