In recent days, the county has intensified its efforts in the construction and improvement of rural roads, a program championed by Governor Dr. Bii himself. Notable among the ongoing projects are the grading of key roads including Kondoo-Kaplum, Teldet-Kaplum, and Kondoo-Kabein roads in Tarakwa Ward, Kesses Sub County. Additionally, the grading and gravelling of Ziwa Machine-Saos road in Ziwa ward, Soy Sub County, have also commenced.

Governor Dr. Bii emphasized the significance of these infrastructure developments, stating, “This program will significantly improve the movement of people and goods in this county which is a food basket for the nation and also promote agricultural sustainability.”

According to the County Executive for roads, Eng. Joseph Lagat, the county has made remarkable progress in its road infrastructure agenda. Under the 2023/24 financial year, approximately 824 kilometers of roads have been graded, with over 50 kilometers of new roads opened, and an additional 108 kilometers of roads have been gravelled.

Eng. Lagat elaborated on the importance of these ongoing projects, highlighting their direct impact on agricultural markets and food prices. “These continuing road projects are aimed at ensuring that as a county we have roads that influence the cost and efficiency of transporting agricultural produce to markets, thereby affecting food prices and the economic well-being of our people,” he noted.

The concerted efforts of Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii and the county administration underscore a dedicated commitment to fostering sustainable agricultural practices and bolstering the livelihoods of farmers within Uasin Gishu County. As rural road networks continue to expand, the region is poised for enhanced economic prosperity and socio-economic development, marking a significant milestone in the journey towards agricultural transformation.
