In a bid to tackle unemployment and promote holistic community development, Trans Nzoia County has rolled out the Ukombozi Social Empowerment Program (USEP). The initiative, launched under the Kazi Mashinani umbrella, aims to equip youth with skills and opportunities for meaningful economic engagement.

The inaugural capacity-building session, held at ACK Church in Endebess, marked a significant milestone in the county’s efforts to uplift its workforce. Led by Dr. Lewis Wachilonga, Director of Youth, Gender, Sports, Culture, and Tourism, the program garnered attention for its commitment to empowering the county’s young population.

Participants were urged to prioritize accuracy in providing information to streamline payment processes, with Dr. Wachilonga emphasizing the importance of financial literacy for informed decision-making and entrepreneurial success.

With plans to establish over 250 groups, the program seeks to catalyze grassroots development across Trans Nzoia County. Dennis Nyukuri, Sub County Administrator of Endebess, underscored the role of individual choices in shaping future outcomes, cautioning against negative influences like alcohol abuse and advocating for strategic planning.

The session also featured insights from Florence Onyango, Principal Social Development Officer of the Gender Department, who highlighted the success of women in self-help groups and encouraged those facing challenges to seek assistance from the Gender Office.

Samuel Lunani from the Department of Trade introduced attendees to the Nawiri Fund, positioning it as a gateway to lucrative opportunities within the trade sector. Meanwhile, Rachael from the Department of Agriculture shared valuable guidance on agricultural projects, presenting attendees with a diverse range of options for sustainable livelihoods.
The comprehensive program spanned multiple wards, including Endebess, Chepchoina, and Matumbei, signaling Trans Nzoia County’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth and empowerment at the grassroots level. With the USEP now underway, residents are optimistic about the prospects of a brighter and more prosperous future for their communities.
