Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Joins KTDA CEO in Tree Planting Event at Githongo Tea Factory

In a demonstration of environmental stewardship and commitment to the tea industry, Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Hon. Mithika Linturi, joined KTDA Group CEO Wilson Muthaura today in planting a tree at Githongo Tea Factory.

The tree planting ceremony marked the culmination of Hon. Linturi’s extensive tour of smallholder tea factories located in the East Rift region. His visit aimed to assess the readiness of these factories for the upcoming KTDA Directors’ elections, which play a pivotal role in the governance and management of Kenya’s tea sector.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Linturi emphasized the importance of sustainable practices in tea cultivation and praised the efforts of KTDA in promoting environmental conservation within tea-growing communities. He highlighted the crucial role of smallholder farmers in Kenya’s economy and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance their livelihoods.

KTDA Group CEO Wilson Muthaura expressed gratitude for the CS’s visit and underscored the significance of collaboration between government officials and industry leaders in advancing the tea sector. He emphasized KTDA’s ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in the upcoming elections, which are scheduled to take place later this year.
