Admissions Begin at Moiben Rehabilitation Center
Today was a big day in Moiben, Uasin Gishu County rehabilitation centre which officially admitted the second cohort of patients into the centre for sustainable treatment of alcohol and drug addiction.
According to Chief Officer Clinical Services Dr. Joyce Sang, who was the day’s host welcoming the rehabilitees, said that it’s the wish of H.E the Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, to see that all addicts are reformed to save lives and livelihoods of the affected persons.
“I am excited to see the turnout on day one of admission. We expect more admissions throughout June and we have an elaborate plan to manage the clients received. Under the Nguzo kumi blueprint of H.E. the Governor, we have put in place enough beds, quality trainers, enough medical staff, counselling sessions, exercise, food, drugs, screening of other diseases and providing a budget of up to Ksh. 100,000 for individual maintenance and medication to ensure they access free rehabilitation”, said Dr. Sang.
*Treatment*
According to the Director Alcoholic Drinks Control Board Mr. Koiya Arap Maiyo, screening takes effect immediately after the clients arrive, this is to establish the client’s ability to engage mentally and physically at the rehabilitation centre.
The screening process also allows the medical team diagnose other symptoms that may need further treatment which the County has covered fully and made the client aware of his new environment.
*Future Plans*
The County Government of Uasin Gishu has approved the construction of a 40-bed capacity rehabilitation centre in Moiben Sub-County where Dr. Joyce Sang, made a site visit to the land intended for the project.
She assured the residents that the County leadership was keen on addressing addiction cases currently witnessed in women and young girls and the new expansion will address the deficits in accommodation.
She added that the County plans to also construct a rehabilitation centre in each sub-county subsequently to serve clients closer to their homes.
*Control of Relapse*
To minimize cases of relapse, Mr. Koiya said that once the patients are done with the programme, the Department has an elaborate agenda to keep in contact with the clients to ensure they have monthly appointments with the medical team and are provided constant support.
He notably said counselling is done to the guardians and the parents to allow them to accept and provide support.
He also noted that the contact of guardians is important to always forward any relapse cases that may need the intervention of the facility.
*Success Stories*
Dr. Joyce Sang expressed her satisfaction with the previous graduates who changed their livelihoods for the better.
From the follow-up reports, a man whose family had separated reconciled with his family and rebuilt his home after the intervention.
In the current case admitted today, is a policeman who admitted himself after alcoholism affected his delivery of services to the point he missed his duties.
While Mr. Sila Kiplimo a student says he abandoned his university studies in his fourth year first semester, when he became a full addict.
” I want to thank H.E Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim for bringing this initiative. I am determined to take up the programme and go back to the university to clear my studies, graduate and find a job,” said Mr. Kiplimo.
