In a significant development, leaders from Northern Kenya have publicly demanded the resignation of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, citing allegations of undermining President William Ruto and National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director Noordin Haji. The leaders accused Gachagua of making statements that “diminish and undermine the sanctity and honor of the President and the government he serves.”

During a press conference held earlier today, spokespersons representing the Northern Kenya leaders expressed their firm stance. “Utterances of the Deputy President demean and undermine the sanctity and honor of the President and the government he serves. We call upon Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to resign immediately,” they declared.

The leaders further criticized Gachagua for allegedly perpetuating divisions among the populace along ethnic and regional lines in pursuit of his ambitions to succeed President Ruto in 2027. “He continues to divide the people of this country along ethnic and regional lines in his bid to become Ruto’s successor,” they asserted.

Regarding recent police actions, the leaders dismissed claims targeting specific departments and instead emphasized collective responsibility. “If we were to blame the lapses made by the police on Tuesday, it should be attributed to the entire police department, not specific individuals. This issue should not be turned into a personal attack on government officials,” they emphasized.

Their lack of confidence in Gachagua’s leadership was underscored by their concerns over his treatment of Noordin Haji, whom they noted was appointed by President Ruto. “We have lost faith in his ability to lead effectively as he undermines Noordin Haji, whom both he and President Ruto appointed,” they concluded.

The call for Gachagua’s resignation marks a notable escalation in the ongoing political dynamics within Kenya, particularly as the country prepares for upcoming elections. Gachagua’s response to these allegations and the subsequent political ramifications remain to be seen as the situation unfolds.
