Kenyan Youths Launch 7-Day Pursuit of Justice Following Violent Protests

Amidst escalating tensions following deadly clashes between protesters and police, Kenyan youths have embarked on a week-long campaign to demand justice and accountability from the government. The protests, initially sparked by opposition to the Finance Bill 2024, turned tragic when over 30 individuals, including doctors, protesters, and journalists, lost their lives in Githurai and Rongai.

In a bold declaration on social media platform X, the youths vowed to “not forgive nor forget” the lives lost during what they describe as unjustified police actions ordered by Deputy President William Ruto. The first day saw youths visiting hospitals to support the injured and mourn the deceased, followed by a poignant initiative on Saturday to plaster posters bearing the faces of the victims across public spaces.

Sunday was marked by solemn observances in churches nationwide, where politicians were barred from speaking as a mark of respect for the lives lost. The movement is set to intensify in the coming days, with plans to print posters featuring images of police officers involved in the shootings and politicians accused of negligence.

Monday and Tuesday are expected to witness widespread civil disobedience, as youths call for a nationwide occupation of major roads and public spaces. The action aims to disrupt normal activities and draw attention to their demands for justice.
