In a resolute declaration following pivotal national events, the Church and Clergy Association of Kenya restated their position as articulated in a press conference on June 26, 2024. Led by Chairman Hudson Ndeda, the association addressed critical issues that have gripped the nation in recent days.

Acknowledging the President’s decision to reject the Finance Bill 2024, the association expressed gratitude for what they described as a demonstration of statesmanship and a commitment to national unity. However, they lamented that the concession came only after significant unrest and violence, resulting in casualties and extensive property damage across the country.

The association condemned instances of police brutality and the use of force, urging authorities to adhere to a recent High Court ruling prohibiting the deployment of Kenya Defense Forces in civilian contexts. They emphasized the importance of respecting human rights and exercising restraint in handling public demonstrations.

Highlighting the President’s initiative to convene a youth engagement forum, the association welcomed the move but called for broader inclusion of young people in national dialogues. They urged the youth to channel their grievances through dialogue rather than street protests, expressing concerns over potential infiltration by disruptive elements.

Furthermore, the association urged the youth to refrain from targeting places of worship and the judiciary, emphasizing their sanctity and pivotal role in upholding democracy. They called upon parliamentarians to fulfill their mandate faithfully and in alignment with the aspirations of the Kenyan people.

In concluding their address, the Church and Clergy Association of Kenya reaffirmed their support for peaceful dialogue between the government and the youth, invoking prayers for national peace, unity, and prosperity.
