In a dramatic turn of events at the Nakuru court today, Cheruiyot Chelule, the chairperson of the Uasingishu County revolving fund, left attendees stunned with his testimony implicating high-profile figures in a significant overseas education scholarship scandal. Chelule revealed that he had been paid a staggering sum of sh.700,000 as ransom during an international trip accompanying then-Uasingishu County Governor Jackson Mandago.

The revelation came during a hearing where Jackson Mandago, currently serving as the Senator of Uasingishu County, along with Joshua Lelei and Meshach Rono, faced charges related to an alleged one billion shilling scandal involving scholarships for overseas education.

Chelule, visibly uneasy, stated to the court, “I do not understand what my role was in the trip nor the reason for my inclusion.” His admission raised eyebrows as he further detailed being paid to sign a memorandum of understanding with three universities aimed at sponsoring students from Uasingishu County.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of prominent political figures and the substantial amount of public funds in question. Allegations of mismanagement and misuse of funds earmarked for educational purposes abroad have sparked outrage among residents and stakeholders alike.
