In response to the current crisis gripping the nation, the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) convened a crucial central committee meeting today to address the escalating anti-government protests spreading across various regions. Led by Nairobi City Senator Edwina Sifuna, the party put forth several proposals aimed at restoring peace and addressing the grievances of the protesting youths.

Senator Sifuna emphasized the urgent need for political leaders to heed the voices of the younger generation. “It is imperative that we, as political leaders, listen attentively to the concerns voiced by our youth. They have presented Kenya with a pivotal opportunity, one that could either propel us forward or plunge the nation into deeper turmoil,” stated Sifuna.

Among the key demands presented by ODM is for the government to take full responsibility for any damages incurred during the protests. Additionally, the party called upon President [Name] to issue immediate directives to all security agencies to halt the arbitrary arrests and inhumane treatment of peaceful demonstrators. Senator Sifuna asserted that these actions, including alleged abductions, are known and sanctioned at the highest levels of the state, necessitating the swift release of all detained protesters.

ODM further expressed dismay over the official reports surrounding the protests, particularly criticizing the President’s statement regarding the loss of only one life in Githurai. The party has formally requested the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) to conduct a thorough investigation into all reported incidents, including disturbing allegations of police misconduct resulting in fatalities in Githurai and Rongai.

In a bold move aimed at accountability, Senator Sifuna announced ODM’s intention to initiate a recall process targeting Members of Parliament who have failed to uphold the interests of their constituents amidst the unrest. Six constituencies have been identified for potential recall, reflecting the party’s commitment to holding elected officials accountable to the people they serve.
