568 patients were diagnosed and treated during the Gladys Boss Foundation free Medical and Surgical Camp at Burnt Forest Sub County Hospital
“We are glad to have completed minor general surgeries for 20 patients, restoring their health,” she said .
“My heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated Medical team of 25 from the United States, together with our local Doctors and volunteers, who are making this possible,” she added.
She further said that the exercise was also done in various Local schools within the County and is set to continue.
“We have extended our Surgical operations to High schools and we have been to Arnersens Boys High school, Kapkoiga Girls and we’ve found out that more children are in need of spectacles,” Said Shollei
In Addition, the Women Representative added that they have found out that most people are scared to visit hospitals due to Stigmatization.
“Most people are scared to be called mad because they are mentally ill , and that’s why we have been accompanied by the Chiromo hospital with a theme TUFUNGUKE which encourages us to open up, so that they can be Assisted,” Shollei Explained
There have been introduction of new technology to detect Eye ailments and prescribe the correct Spectacles to the patients.
“There is a new eye operation machine which is able to detect any eye infection and after this surgical camp the machines will remain in our hospitals to be further used by other patients,” boss shollei added.
Greg the Vice-President Lions Club Eldoret saa said most Eye problems like Cataracts are reported late due to Lack of Information from the Victim.
“The Mild problem is lack of vulnerable medical treatment and education which has a lot to do with the eye infections, for the residents to get early treatments,”Said Statement.
Other Stakeholders who attended the Surgical Camp have promised to do more outreach program to reach the interior residents in the County.
“Here at mediheal Eldoret, we’ve been granted NHIF national scheme and for those who will not be able to get treated, they can visit our hospital with their NHIF card and get treated,” said Joseph Bor who is the Senior Business Development Manager.
The medical Check-up brought together Doctors from Finland and Doctors from the County Hospitals.
