Busia Receives a Mobile X-Ray From Ampath
The Department of Health and Sanitation has today received and flagged off a Mobile Diagnostic Unit (MDU) truck from the kindness of AMPATH program in Busia County.
The truck which is designed and fitted with an x-ray generator, computered radiograph system and gasoline generator is intended to offer x-rays and radiology services to patients in far flung areas in the County.
In his receiving remarks, the Deputy Governor and the CECM incharge of Health and Sanitation, H.E Hon Arthur Odera welcomed the kind gesture from the partner noting that with the truck’s mobility nature, the department is going to achieve the level of efficiency in delivering services even to remote health centers that ordinarily don’t have capacity and such resources.
” As a department we are now forced to think about how best to deliver services without an overreliance on brick and mortar everywhere. We are going to proceed to find convinient, easy, flexible and agile ways to deliver services to our customers around the County,” he added.
Dr. Susan Outa, Chief Officer in the Department of Health and Sanitation said that as part of her responsibility, she will ensure that the truck is mobile at all times and maintained throughout so that patients can get the required services from designated radiographer and radiologists who will be going around.
Dr. Outa added that she will ensure mentorship programs at every facility which do not have an x-ray service and at every sub- County where the services for the truck will be needed .
Salome Sijenyi, leading Health Financing in AMPATH Population Health, indicated that their interest and top agenda is in advancing universal health coverage and access to diagnostics hence believe that when the truck will be moving across Busia County, people in remote areas will be able to access services.
She also mentioned that their priority is in increased expertise in that as Busia County assigns a radiologist to the truck, they provide a driver for mobility because it’s a co-creation and a co- implementation thing in strengthening health systems.
The truck will serve the entire county and by so doing, areas with greatest needs will be defined and establish a calender for providing services across county through out the year.
