The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in collaboration with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and local authorities in Masaba North, Kisii County, has apprehended a notorious exam fraudster accused of leaking Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams via Telegram.

The suspect, identified as the administrator of a Telegram group used to distribute leaked exam papers, was arrested at his residence following a well-coordinated operation. Intelligence gathered by the DCI pinpointed the suspect’s hideout, leading to his capture.

A mobile phone and a laptop were seized during the arrest, suspected to be the primary tools used in perpetrating the exam malpractices. The suspect is now in police custody and faces charges under Section 27(1) of the KNEC Act, 2021 (Revised 2019) for possessing unauthorized materials.

In a statement, the police warned individuals involved in similar fraudulent activities, urging them to desist from engaging in the illegal act. “Those caught in the act will face severe consequences,” the police affirmed.

This arrest comes just weeks after the government, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, reaffirmed its commitment to combating exam-related fraud. Authorities have vowed to implement stringent measures to ensure the integrity of the national examinations.

The DCI and KNEC continue to collaborate in monitoring and apprehending individuals involved in exam malpractices, as part of a broader national effort to safeguard the credibility of Kenya’s education system.
