Busia Governor Flags Off Drugs Worth Kshs. 59M
The Governor, Dr. Paul Otuoma today flagged off drugs worth kshs. 59 million in an event held at Busia County Referral Hospital.
Speaking at the event, the Governor issued a stern warning to officers intending to steal.
“In my manifesto, I promised the residents of Busia County quality health care and proper structures in health sector. Today I direct all sub county administrators, ward administrators and enforcement officers to be alert and report any cases of theft.” he said.
The Governor assured the public that he will keenly consider the health department in the making of the supplementary budget. He said that he will allocate more funds to cater for the purchase of drugs and non pharmaceutical supplies.
The Deputy Governor, Arthur Odera who is also the chairperson of Task Force Committee thanked the task force for the efforts put to make sure the residents of Busia will no longer worry about lack of drugs in the public health facilities.
“It is a day of great importance being accorded to the department of health and the same will be accorded to our health care workers to deliver high quality services to our residents.” he said.
The Busia County Assembly Speaker, Engineer Fredrick Odilo thanked the Governor for bringing the first consignment of drugs after taking the mantle of power and urged the county residents to be vigilant especially on those who are used to taking drugs to other counties.
The acting Chief Officer, Health and Sanitation, Dr. Melisa Lutomia, highlighted major challenges that the department faces which included lack of pharmaceuticals, stalled projects, inadequate staff, level 4 hospitals lacking theaters among other important services.
