Eldoret: Chembe Merchants Members Cry Foul After They Were Allegedly Conned
Chembe Merchants Limited members stormed Eldoret Central Police Station after they alleged that the management had conned them of their monies
The over 30 members said the Company had promised to give them loans without interest after saving with them which never happened.
The police intervened after they threatened to lynch one of the managers who was being held at the Police Station.
Leah Cherutto a victim said a teacher was going around convincing people to join the group in order to get Ksh 20,000 loan after saving money.
“On 30th January I saved Ksh 4,000 so that I can get a loan of Ksh 20,000 and I have been waiting because he told me I would receive it after 3 weeks but unfortunately the three weeks are over and money,” said Cheruto.
Cherutto claimed that none of them has received the savings to give others hope of getting the money as promised.
According to another victim, a lot of people from outside Eldoret town have been conned as the group uses people from the local communities to convince others to save money so as to get loans without interest.
“It’s not only people from Eldoret that have suffered from the cat and Mouse game, I come from Mosoriot and I have been conned 40,000 shillings waiting to get a loan of Sh 80,000,” another victim said.
They noted that despite informing the OCS on the same nothing has been done only being given false promises.
“My Husband divorced me because I took his money promising to get a loan but now he sees me as a liar. We want nothing but our hard-earned money,” said Joyce Korir.
“I was to save Ksh 20000 for my only son and I wanted to take him abroad but because of this company his dreams will not come true, “another victim lamented.
