County Government of Uasin Gishu Distributes Drugs to 138 Health facilities
The County Government of Uasin Gishu has received drugs consignment worth Ksh 67 million from the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency.
Speaking as he flagged off the consignment, Governor Jonathan Bii said the drugs will be supplied directly to the 138 health facilities across Uasin Gishu County.
“We are getting the drugs directly to the health facilities because I visited the central drug store and learnt that it is far more reasonable to have the facilities get the drugs directly from Kemsa, why would we store the drugs here when they are needed by the people at the grassroots?” inquired Governor Bii.
The Governor furthers, “I visited the central store a few days into office and realized that there’s no point for medical supplies to be stocked away from the facilities when they can be kept at the facilities.”
The County boss said the drugs will last the 138 health facilities until the end of January, also calling on the health staff to ensure that the drugs are well taken care of.
“Health is key, and this is to ensure that the people of Uasin Gishu are healthy to work,” he adds. “Just like all other departments, we shall go to the furthest lengths to ensure that government services are felt in the grassroots, and I will be there myself, most of the time.”
Deputy Governor Eng John Barorot said; “This is a very momentous occasion because it is within the 100 days of the leadership of (Governor Jonathan).”
“I remember during our first days in office, the Governor visited the central (drugs) stores and gave a instructions on what needs to be done to improve efficiency in provision of health services in Uasin Gishu County,” said Barorot, reiterating that the drugs should be used efficiently with proper records.
The DG also hinted that the Government has plans to put up efficient systems that will assist in management of inventory online. This will help in monitoring and stocking.
County Assembly Whip, Julius Sang, said there have been complaints of lack of drugs at most facilities. “The people of Uasin Gishu are eagerly waiting for these drugs. I think getting the drugs direct to the facilities is the best way to ensure that medical supplies are available for dispensing at all time.”
Chair of Uasin Gishu Assembly Health Committee, Rebecca Magut, said the county legislature will be according to the urgency it deserves for health bills and policies because. “As the assembly, we shall be approving what is needed at the right time because we have the energy to change and ensure the people of Uasin Gishu get the best services as service to humanity is service to God.”
