Facts About Leonard Mambo Mbotela That You Did Not Know
Leonard Mambo Mbotela is a Kenyan veteran journalist famous for his show “Je, Huu Ni Uungwana?” that is relayed on state-owned KBC Chanel 1 and KBC Radio Taifa.
The name is famous but here are things you may not know about Mbotela. He was born in 1940 in Frere area, Mombasa County, unlike most journalists, he never went to a journalism school.
Mbotela worked for the Kenya Weekly News as a trainee reporter and the East Africa Standard newspaper before joining Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) then Voice of Kenya where he was made a full-time employee in 1964, the lowest moment of his carrier was August 1, 1982, during the attempted coup.
He is married to Alice Mbotela, they are blessed with three children: Ida, Jimmy, and George. His ‘Je Huu ni Ungwana Show on Radio Taifa and KBC TV’ is the longest in the history of Kenyan media industry. The Show has been running for over 50 years.
During the attempted 1982 coup, Mbotela was forced at gunpoint to announce on air that Moi’s government had been overthrown.
