Kakamega County Governor Fernandez Barasa made an impromptu visit at the Kakamega County General and Referral Hospital.

This comes days after making similar visits to Matungu Hospital and County Government Headquarters offices.

“Today I have made an impromptu visit to Kakamega County General and Referral Hospital with an aim of checking the functionality of Government structures and equipment towards quality service delivery to residents. My aim is to ensure residents get quality and not qunatitty services as promised during the electioneering period,” said governor Barasa.

The tour of the facility highlighted key areas of concern requiring urgent redress among them supply of drugs, non-pharmaceuticals, and laboratory reagents, servicing and operationalizing medical equipment such as the CT Scan and the Oxygen Plant as well as enhancement of Laboratory services where a number of diagnostic equipment such as Histology, Cobas and PCR machines require re-activation.

The Governor who was joined by Senior staff at the Hospital also raised concerns about the new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) which is not operational, ordering for an urgent comprehensive report on the state of the County’s Level 5 Hospital.

He also noticed a gap in health staff against required services by members of the public and promised to strengthen the facility’s Human Resource Department.

Governor Barasa’s manifesto outlined the provision of quality healthcare to residents as a priority area and envisages a functional health system that meets the needs of every resident, well equipped health facilities as well as a well trained and motivated workforce.
