Kenya Medical Practitioners and Doctors Union (KMPDU ) Northrift region has decried the few numbers of doctors in the region

Speaking during their Annual General Meeting comprising members from Eldoret, Trans Nzoia, Turkana, Samburu, and Nandi, KMPDU Northrift region chairman, Darwin Ambuka said the government should consider employing doctors from the country.

“We are looking forward to seeing the government employ more doctors from the country other than importing doctors from Cuba because our doctors are well trained and this will help lift the burden of diseases and debts in the nation, ” said Ambuka.

He noted that the state of healthcare in the country is at stake due to the national and county governments transiting saying that every Kenyan is entitled to receive quality healthcare services therefore the newly elected Cabinet Secretary for Health should look into improving the Health sector.

“Now that the government has transited I would urge the newly elected Cabinet Secretary with the help of other officials to make sure that the health sector has been improved in terms of infrastructure, facilities, and above all to ensure that the common ‘mwananchi’ receives quality health care, ” said Ambuka

Kamonzi Mule KMPDU secretary of Northrift region said that the increment of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) by 1.7% will inconvenience Kenyans, especially those who cannot afford to pay for healthcare in the country therefore he urged the organization to check out and close all dormant NHIF accounts.

“The increment of the NHIF by the government will disadvantage the common ‘mwananchi’ therefore if all the dormant accounts are done away with, it will prevent high levels of disease, poverty, and poor development, ” said Mule

Kamonzi also noted that failure to sign the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the KMPDU and the county governments causes challenges in the working environment resulting in strikes by doctors.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) is a trade union that represents Kenyan doctors in employment and labour relations with an aim to improve the welfare of doctors in Kenya.
