Trans Nzoia County Unites for a Greener Future: Deputy Governor Calls for Tree Planting and Environmental Conservation
Trans Nzoia Deputy Governor Philomenah Kapkory has underscored the importance of residents coming together to plant trees and contribute to the conservation of the environment, in a bid to make the world a better place.
Highlighting the abundant resources in Trans Nzoia, such as the Cherangany and Mt Elgon water towers, Mrs Kapkory stressed the need to protect them by increasing the number of trees, particularly indigenous species.
During a tree planting exercise at Riwo Primary School in Cherangany sub-county, the Deputy County Chief announced that the County had contributed 2,500 trees to support the initiative.
Mrs Kapkory affirmed that Governor George Natembeya’s administration is dedicated to creating numerous job opportunities through this tree planting endeavor. She explained that youth and women groups, especially those involved in growing tree seedlings, would be engaged in supplying the seedlings.
She further highlighted that planting trees would foster a conducive environment and contribute to the fight against global warming, which poses a threat to vital sectors of the economy such as agriculture.
Mrs Kapkory emphasized that the tree planting initiative aligns with President William Ruto’s ambitious goal of planting over 15 billion trees by 2032.
“The importance of planting trees cannot be overstated. It not only protects our valuable resources but also mitigates the adverse effects of climate change. We must all play our part in conserving the environment for the sake of future generations,” Deputy Governor concluded.
