President of the Law Society of Kenya, Faith Odhiambo, Urges Students to Embrace Leadership and Mentorship
The President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Faith Odhiambo, called on students to integrate leadership with continuous learning, emphasizing the critical role of mentorship in shaping future leaders. She was speaking at the University of Nairobi’s AIESEC Mentorship Day, an event designed to engage students in discussions on leadership and personal development.
Odhiambo highlighted the interdependence of leadership and learning, stressing that effective leaders must not only be able to impart knowledge but also remain open to learning from others. She encouraged students to embrace curiosity, authenticity, and a deep commitment to their purpose.
“Leadership is not just about guiding others, but also about the ability to listen, learn, and grow together,” said Odhiambo. “Mentorship is key to leadership as it fosters mutual growth and helps to create a more robust and interconnected community of leaders.”
In her address, Odhiambo emphasized that mentorship enriches both the mentor and the mentee. She urged the students to value mentorship as a transformative tool that nurtures their leadership skills, while also empowering them to inspire others. She reiterated that for institutions of higher learning, the role extends beyond academic progress, calling for a focus on personal and professional growth as well.
“The formative years of your careers are an opportunity to build lasting relationships, form shared visions, and work towards realizing common goals,” Odhiambo said. “By supporting each other, students can create networks that will sustain them through their professional journeys.”
Odhiambo concluded her speech by reaffirming the Law Society of Kenya’s continued support for the youth, praising their resolve and the potential they hold to bring about the necessary changes for the prosperity of the country.
The AIESEC Mentorship Day, attended by numerous students, was an opportunity for future leaders to engage with mentors and gain valuable insights into leadership, career development, and the importance of fostering a culture of learning and collaboration.
