Gideon Moi Speaks After a Mosque and Church Were Torched
KANU chairman Gideon Moi has spoken after a Church and Mosque were torched in Kibra on Monday after Raila Odinga’s demonstration.
Moi who has been silent since the August polls said political inclinations should not degenerate into religious animosity
“We must come to a common understanding as a nation that our different political inclinations should not degenerate into religious animosity as recently witnessed in parts of Kibra Constituency, Nairobi County,” said the KANU chairman.
He noted that the constitution acknowledges the supremacy of the Almighty God in the Preamble and the freedom of religion, thus reaffirming the importance of religious tolerance despite our beliefs.
“Even as we exercise the right to picket under Article 37, we must all be emphatic in denouncing the destruction of private property in any part of this country, be it a stall, shop, supermarket, or even farm,” he added.
This comes after a section of a mosque in Kibera slums was burnt down in chaos that was witnessed in the area amid claims of sponsored thuggery and in retaliation, a group of youth raided the PCEA church in the area and set it on fire.
